Counseling Team
John - School Counselor
John, a New York City native and graduate of St. John’s University, joined WESS after six years at the Marsh Avenue Expeditionary Learning School in Staten Island, where he first served as a teacher assistant prior to transitioning to his role as English and Special Education teacher across grades. A founding teacher at WESS in the fall of 2015, John went on to teach 6th and 7th grade ELA before transitioning to his role as School Counselor for the 2017-2018 school year after completing his Masters Degree in School Counseling from Alfred University. Over the last four years, John has supported all grade levels at WESS by helping develop Social Emotional Learning curricula in addition to providing both mandated and at- risk counseling services to students in need. He has supported WESS families throughout the ever-changing NYC High School admissions process as students navigate the next steps of their education. Together with the rest of the WESS Counseling Team, John is dedicated to developing a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students and making WESS a place where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and ideas with the people who know them best. Outside of school, John has a passion for athletics and travel, and is looking forward to a time when he can take part in those activities safely with friends and family. During the summer months, John is likely to be found on a beach in New Jersey.
